About David Tamay

My name is David Tamay, I am a Sophomore studying Political Science at George Washington University, and I am committed to advancing immigrant justice, LGBTQ+ rights, and equity for underrepresented communities. As a queer Ecuadorian-American, my lived experience drives my dedication to advocacy and civic engagement. Through roles with the Honey W. Nashman Center for Civic Engagement, I’ve mentored and supported under-resourced middle school students, developed enrichment programming, and organized youth civic initiatives that strengthened community knowledge and participation. My work as a Resident Services Intern for West Orange Councilwoman Tammy Williams deepened my understanding of local governance and community-centered service, while my leadership as DEI Chair for Alpha Phi Omega helped institutionalize long-term equity initiatives within the chapter. In my advocacy roles with the Immigrant Liberation Coalition and Beyond the Ballot, I’ve educated communities on immigrant rights, created accessible resources, and engaged with congressional offices to advance LGBTQIA+ protections and immigration reform.I hope to continue building equitable, community-rooted policy solutions and ultimately pursue a career shaping inclusive, justice-driven systems for marginalized communities.
