Manage the over 200 employees of the Department of Public Works. Oversight and implementation of the 25 million dollar annual operating budget and the 200 million dollar Capital Project Budget. The department provides efficient, cost-effective and high quality services to the citizens of the City of Fairfax. Public Works maintains the city\'s roadways, pedestrian facilities, bridges, historic brick sidewalks, traffic signals, wastewater system, storm sewer system, city owned buildings and a fleet of 500 rolling stock. The right-of-way crew provides colorful, award-winning flower displays throughout the city. Trash is picked up weekly by the friendly, dedicated sanitation crew. Our CUE Bus drivers will give passengers a tour around the city or take them to their favorite city destinations. The department also is in charge of Transportation Planning, Traffic Engineering, Watershed Management, City Cemetery, Environmental Initiatives, Permits, Design Review, Dry Utilities, Sustainability, Street Lighting, Road Closures, Snow Removal, Construction Management, Floodplain Management, Utility Coordination, administering construction contracts, Transportation engineering, new construction, architecture and engineering of buildings, and energy management.
