WORK HISTORY
Technical Director for Engineering Geology @Atkins
I am Technical Director for Engineering Geology and Fellow at Atkins, a major employer of geologists and geoscientists, where I manage and contribute to a wide range of geotechnical and geoenvironmental projects. I am a Chartered Geologist, Chartered Scientist, European Geologist and am on the UK Register of Ground Engineering Professionals. I am also an associate/affiliate member of the Institution of Cilvil Engineers and of the Institute for Archaeologists. My geological interests lie not only in the professional engineering geology and applied geohazards work that I do at Atkins, but also in the wide range of pure and applied subjects that together comprise geology - from geomorphology to tectonics, and from geological materials to palaeoecology.I have appeared as an expert in international construction disputes (arbitrations and dispute resolution hearings) for projects in Bahrain, Indonesia, Trinidad and Finland.I established an archaeological consultancy within Atkins, and our capabilities have grown into a heritage team that is now a division within our planning and environmental businesses.I have been the author or co-author of more than 20 technical papers and conference presentations, mostly on geohazards and engineering geology for slope stability and cross-country pipelines, with a few on geotechnical engineering on archaeological sites and recently on the LUSI Mud Volcano in Java.
