Hi, I\'m Dave. And I\'m an award-winning writer, editor, communications pro and storyteller. I have been published in/written for: Forbes, Playboy, CNBC, Business Week, The New York Times; Upfront, The New York Post, NPR/WNYC\'s \"On the Media,\" Public Radio\'s \"Marketplace,\" NPR/WFPL, New York Magazine, Pittsburgh Magazine, Louisville Magazine, and The Forward, I was an editor at Forbes.com, where I focused on financial markets and investing. I\'ve interviewed people including: Ray Bradbury, Gene Simmons, Jeff Foxworthy, Carrie Brownstein, Hugh Hefner, Dennis Hopper and George Clinton. I\'ve been a featured commentator on: NPR, the E! Entertainment Channel, the BBC, and CNBC. As a communications professional I am skilled at writing: press releases, websites, app text, and for every sort of social media. Currently teach US History at Meyzeek Middle School. Prior to that taught ninth grade social studies/civics at Doss High School. Daily responsibilities include co-writing a year’s worth of lessons plans/curriculum, creating all formative/summative assessments, communicating with parents/guardians, and classroom management. Work to help students understand: the rights and responsibilities of citizenship, how government works, and how their actions can impact society. • Skilled in online teaching, including programs such as: Google Classroom, PearDeck and JamBoard. Use all to engage students as if they were in the classroom. • Earned a Doss “Certificate of Excellence for Professional Learning Communities” award. • Engaged in project-based learning; examples include having students write constitutions for countries they invented and mini-autobiographies of leading civil rights figures. • Wrote lessons around current, real-world events. Example lessons include Black Lives Matter, Louisville’s food deserts, and how local activism the proposed West End Wal-Mart and Food Port. • Culminated a unit on air quality as a civil right by hosting a talk by Ted Smith, former Chief Innovation Officer for the city of Louisville; he explained how the city tracked air quality via smart inhalers.
