Bryant Park Studios, a Landmark Building built in 1901 and located in midtown Manhattan is the prime Women\'s Contemporary Apparel Showroom Building, with loft spaces overlooking Bryant Park. Designed by the prominent architect Charles A. Rich, the 123 year old building displays an ornamentation in an elaborate French Beaux Arts style. It was commissioned by portraitist A.A. Anderson, an artist with French training, who lived in the quadplex full floor studio on the Penthouse level. It was Anderson, an artist that had struggled to find ample work space in Paris and back in New York City, who planned and erected the property on four lots on the corner of 40th street and 6th Avenue, the former site of the short lived Hotel Royal that had since been destroyed in a fire. Although the site was not located on 57th Street, the center of the Art District, he did have the insight to choose a location just south of Bryant Park. He knew that the all-important northern light would never be blocked by future tall buildings. Numerous artists of note worked and lived in Bryant Park Studios, including Fernand Leger, Edward Steichen, Haskell Coffin, J.C. Leyendecker, Edward Suydam, John La Gotta, Florine Stettheimer, Norman Rockwell, Jo Davidson, Katherine Sophie Dreier, Leon Gordon, Thomas Bull, Gari Melchers, Bert Stern, Irving Penn, Thomas Bouchard, and Kurt Seligman. This too was part of Anderson\'s objective, so artists coming to New York City would have wide open loft spaces, with double height ceilings, extra wide stairwells, and a dumbwaiter that led directly to the buildings Basement and Ground floor tenant: the Cafe des Beaux Arts, a famous restaurant and night club in its time, which was a lessee for many years. Anderson lived in the building till his death in 1940. Over the years Bryant Park Studios would be home and work studio to many artists, photographers, sound studios, architects, and designers.Specialties: Mountain Development Corp. has managed Bryant Park Studios since 1983, with an iron clad commitment to maintaining this Landmark building, while dedicating our spare time to the restoration of the ever expanding cache of covered treasures we find, including a 20x10 Tiffany\'s stained glass skylight uncovered in the summer of 2008, original floors, ceilings, fireplaces, moldings, no longer in use freight doors, mail chutes, fixtures, and furniture. It is this on-going passion we strive for.
