ABOUT DAVID SCHARF
With a background in both business administration and plant sciences, I have an interdisciplinary perspective to the intersection of science, policy, and sustainable agriculture. I began my career in the private sector, completing a dual qualification with a bachelor in retail management and a degree as management assistant in wholesale and foreign trade while working in purchasing for a tea wholesaler.Driven by a growing interest in plant biology and sustainability, I pursued a Bachelor’s in Agricultural Sciences and a Master’s in Horticultural Sciences. During my doctoral research at the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Plant Physiology, I focused on biotechnological engineering of plant organelles in tomatoes and the model plant tobacco to enhance carotenoid stability and sequestration. The goal of my research was contributing to advancements in plant-based nutrition and metabolic engineering.Currently, I work as project manager at the German Farmers Association (DBV e.V.) within the HumusKlimaNetz project. This initiative supports climate-resilient farming practice with a strong focus on carbon sequestration and soil health. My passion lies in leveraging both my economic and scientific expertise to support evidence-based policymaking. I am especially committed to advancing legislative frameworks that foster innovation in plant research, agriculture, and environmental sustainability.
