His extensive experience spans over 50 years and covers all aspects of structural design and construction engineering. Mr. Ruby has extensive experience in high-rise building design and construction. As a Project Engineer for American Bridge, Mr. Ruby was responsible for structural design and construction engineering on the John Hancock Building and Standard Oil Tower (Aon Center) in Chicago and the Astoria Bridge in Oregon. In addition, Mr. Ruby had direct design responsibility for Hyatt Embarcadero Center Hotel and Block 230 office tower in San Francisco and Renaissance Center, Detroit. Recently, Mr. Ruby facilitated the value redesign of the lateral system for the 12-story hospital saving several million dollars and 8 weeks in the schedule. Through Ruby+Associates, Inc, Mr. Ruby has continued to service the construction industry by providing steel erection and stability analysis, value engineered solutions and constructability reviews on such projects as: New York Times Building; Field (Detroit) and US Cellular Field (Chicago); and as a member of the design/build team for the Northwest Airlines Twin DC-10 and 747 Hangars, Detroit Metro Airport. In 2010, Ruby University was introduced at the AISC NASCC. Ruby University\'s focus is Constructability; the optimum use of construction knowledge and experience in the planning, design, procurement, fabrication and field operations to achieve overall project objectives. The presentations focused on the designer\'s project planning and design process as well as the designer\'s impact on fabrication and installation. In 2012, Ruby University returned to the NASCC and continued its focus on Constructability by spotlighting projects that \"Worked in the Model\", including the low-lights of BIM; while sharing the benefits of construction knowledge and experience when introduced in designer/contractor collaboration.

ABOUT DAVID RUBY
I have made structural design and construction engineering my professional passion for over 50 years. As a project engineer for American Bridge, I learned the essential concepts that drive my design and construction engineering philosophy - a philosphy that emphasizes collaborative design with the inclusion of construction knowledge and experience, i.e, CONSTRUCTABILITY. This philosophy permeates the firm founded in 1984, Ruby+Associates, and continues to compel the firm’s delivery of structural engineering. I am a Professional or Structural Engineer registered in 39 states and I have also performed structural engineering on projects in Canada, Brazil, South Korea, Germany, Russia and Mexico. I was recently appointed to the Construction Science Research Foundation Board of Directors. I am the receiptent of the MSPE & ACEC/M 1998 Outstanding Individual Engineer in Private Practice Award, the 2004 CASE Past Chairman’s Award for outstanding contributions to the structural engineering profession and the community, the 2010 SEAMi Engineer of the Year for contributions to the profession and in 2011, the AISC Lifetime Achievement Award for contributions in the design, constructability and engineering of structural steel. Specialties: My passion is structural design, utilizing the concept of Constructability - the inclusion of construction knowledge and experience in the planning, design, procurement and construction to achieve overall project objectives. I have been active within ACEC, ASCE, CASE and NCSEA, as well as AISC and the structural steel construction industry it serves. I authored the AISC Constructability Design Guide No. 23, published in 2009, several articles on the topic and presented at industry conferences.
