About David Perry

Over the past 20 years I\'ve been at Microsoft as a leader across many aspects of the Windows User experience. I lead my teams focusing on inclusive culture, delivering compelling new customer scenarios, and trying my best to lead by example and with empathy. Currently I lead the Windows Devices and Shell Experiences team as VP of Engineering with a global team of extremely talented engineers. We recently shipped Windows Copilot, Windows 365 Boot and Windows 365 Switch to our customers for early preview. I started my career at Microsoft as a Dev Lead on Tablet PC where I got the opportunity to build and lead the team that brought pen and touch experiences to Windows. This passion for user experience led me to join the Windows Shell team for the next 18 years, where I\'ve continued to grow from Dev Lead to VP leading many iconic experiences for Windows. We brought user centric features like ThemePacks and Multimon desktop backgrounds, removed unwanted notifications with Action Center, simplified settings management with a redesigned control panel and made setting up your monitors easy with a new set of display controls! Windows 8-10, I took on the role as Dev Manager for multiple user experience teams, delivering on key platform investments like the process lifetime manager and notification platform as well as award winning experiences like the redesigned Task Manager and Search experience. Windows 10, I brought new industry defining features like Windows Hello and AAD, allowing both consumer and commercial customers to log into windows with their email account, enabling Backup/Restore as well as Cloud Files and Timeline! We brought this to education with CartPC.For the last 5 years I\'ve had the opportunity to lead the Windows Devices and Shell team as VP of Engineering, first working on a new version of Windows for Tablets, and then taking this forward to become Windows 11! The most loved version of Windows yet! I also have the opportunity to work on hardware integration with Pen, Touch, Keyboard input, custom experiences for unique hardware, and the Surface Hub business.I currently get to lead investments in all sorts of cool things I can\'t yet talk about :) although we DID just announce Win365 Boot and Switch in support of the huge Windows 365 cloud pc business and Windows Copilot which is our first foray into amazing new AI technology integrated into Windows!I have an amazing team with investments in Africa, India, and Redmond, WA. I love getting to work with such a diverse group and make products that impact billions of people!
