About David Nelson
David Nelson has more than 30 years’ experience in the petroleum marketing industry, having published several studies on the valuation of petroleum jobberships, c-store profitability, and other topics of interest to distributors. David\'s economics and finance background, coupled with his knowledge in the petroleum marketing industry, has led him to be a frequent speaker before industry groups and a developer and presenter of training programs in the industry. He was a co-founder of CSXLLC, which today is owned by NACS, and is the industry standard for providing benchmarking information for petroleum marketers and convenience store operators.David Nelson also has a passion for education and in helping others gain knowledge and insight to improve their lives. David has been a university professor of economics and finance for more than 40 years and has taught in the U.S, Japan, and Mexico. He founded and directed the Center for Economic Education at Western Washington University for 30 years. The Center was responsible for training K-12 teachers in educating students about personal finance and how a market economy works. In 1985, David took his passion for education to the petroleum marketing and c-store industries by assisting a group of jobbers in forming a study group and in working with them to develop the financial and operational benchmarks to measure their performance. He has served as the facilitator for this group since its inception. He formalized this model as the Founder and President of Finance & Resource Management Consultants, Inc, a firm that provides facilitation and financial benchmarking services for Study Groups. Today, there are 45 Study Groups involving more than 400 executives from throughout the U.S. participating. The focus on Study Groups is on peer-to-peer sharing of burning issues, best ideas, and recent activities in financial and operational benchmarking.
