ABOUT DAVID METZGER

For the past 30 years, I have provided legal and commercial advice on the construction and development of major new projects in the energy (renewables and nuclear), infrastructure (transport, health, sports and other social) and major real estate development (new communities, offices and residential) sectors. Bringing strong collaboration, strategic thinking and deal leadership skills, I have created solutions on many path-finding projects, enabling them to proceed and to be financed, including several which have then been adopted as industry standards. I have advised on important social infrastructure and sustainable energy projects, including over 25 major new acute hospitals as well as the commercialisation of fixed (and now floating) offshore wind farms, solar technologies, major new bridges and tunnels as well as the London 2012 Olympics. However, I am most proud of helping mentor and develop the careers of so many in our team in what has become the market-leading practice for major projects, including those who have gone on to partnerships in the firm and elsewhere or to leadership positions in-house and with clients. In 2020-21, I led a global and cross-industry task-force advising Clifford Chance clients on the impact of Covid-19 on their businesses, both immediate and longer term. We developed strategies to identify critical market trends whilst providing and communicating to our partners clear and practical steps they could take to continue to build strong relationships with clients, even in the most turbulent of times, and grow their businesses and revenues. As Special Counsel, I now continue to advise clients with Clifford Chance on opportunities and issues they face or will encounter and developing their strategies around the same. I am available to take on other opportunities, whether on a project consultancy or equity/leadership basis, and am always happy to invest time considering proposals and fresh challenges.
