ABOUT DAVID MELIA

I began my career in construction at 16 as a self-employed bricklayer, working on a variety of projects while achieving Level 2 and 3 brickwork qualifications, along with certifications in construction management. After years as a bricklayer, builder, and site supervisor, I transitioned into education, teaching bricklaying at the Growth Company in Trafford Park. I was soon promoted to Team Leader of Construction Craft and Engineering, managing trainers delivering Level 1-3 Diplomas across multiple trades. To support my career shift, I earned qualifications in assessment, teaching, and management, including the A1 Assessor Award, a PGDE, and Lead IQA.I later became Sector Manager for Construction at Oldham College, overseeing work-based learning apprenticeships. From there, I moved into the role of Head of Quality & Curriculum at North West Skills Academy, focusing on construction qualifications, green skills, and later a dual role with Construction EPA company My next role took me to Manchester Growth Company & Skills as Head of Operations at the Green Skills Academy, where I managed all aspects of its operations. I then resumed my role as Construction and Low Carbon Lead at UK Skills Academy, continuing my work in skills development and training. As of April 2025, I’ve joined DMR Training as Head of Curriculum and Standards! DMR Training is a specialist provider for the construction industry and low carbon sector, offering onsite NVQ assessments (Level 2-7), alongside bespoke training programmes and upskilling courses tailored to business and individual needs.
