ABOUT DAVID LEIBTAG

Prior to becoming an Educational Consultant, Rabbi David Leibtag served as the Head of School of the Hebrew Academy of the Five Towns and Rockaway (HAFTR) in Lawrence, New York. HAFTR is among the largest yeshiva day schools on Long Island, New York, serving approximately 1500 students from preschool through grade twelve. Rabbi Leibtag moved to New York from Missouri where he served as Headmaster of the H.F. Epstein Hebrew Academy of St. Louis from 19••••98. During his tenure in St. Louis, the school’s enrollment increased by 25% and the Academy received accreditation from the prestigious Independent Schools Association of the Central States (ISACS). Rabbi Leibtag introduced progressive approaches to reading and math instruction and developed innovative strategies for the teaching of Jewish holidays, history and Zionism curricula. Prior to directing the school in St. Louis, Rabbi Leibtag was Headmaster of the Akiba Academy of Dallas, where he served from 1975 to 1990. While in Texas, Rabbi Leibtag led his to school to national prominence, when in 1985, the Akiba Academy was cited for excellence in education and was selected as a Blue Ribbon School by the United States Department of Education. Rabbi Leibtag is a member of the National Council of Yeshiva Principals of Torah Umesorah and chaired their National convention in 1992. Leibtag has consulted with day schools across the country and has presented at educational conferences in the areas of leadership, Jewish studies and prayer curriculum, multiple intelligences, constructivism, alternative assessment and brain based learning.
