ABOUT DAVID L.
I\'ve been in the communications industry since 1987 when I left school, spending many years learning my electronics and communications trade in an apprenticeship whilst gaining my qualifications.I have worked for SPT Telecommunications, Siemens Plessey Systems (formerly Plessey) and now Airbus Defence and Space (formerly EADS Astrium, Astrium, Matra Marconi Space & Marconi Systems before that).Having been at Airbus since 1993, I have been lucky enough to get the support and training to gain a broad experience in managing teams of people, small projects, departments, money and technical projects / problem solving and was utilised in a range of ways.After being an electro-mechanical engineer, producing, testing, installing and commissioning ground satcoms, I was put into the Young Managers Programme, where I learned business, finance, project management, scheduling, IT and soft skills. By the end of this I was deputy head of through life support (now called CIS).After about 10 years of the above I moved into Technical Transfer / Offsets for a number of years, globetrotting etc. then went into Business Developmemt for a couple of years before taking an awesome opportunity to become a Project Manager for the Airbus Eurostar Satellite platforms. 6 years later, I became Head of a Muti-Functional Team responsible for the end to end process and performance of Panels and Structures, designed and manufactured on the Stevenage site, lucky enough to be working with some extremely talented individuals whom we’ve done great things together with. To this day it continues, I support pretty much every function one way or another, and have become a ‘fixer’ of sorts, putting time and energy into the topics that need it.I’m also focal point for our Outreach (STEM) programme at our Stevenage site - helping the next generations into STEM careers, helping develop young people and supporting our CUSP and Social Values programmes.My posts here will mainly consist of the positivity and engagement we get from our OUTREACH programme, the day job has to stay more…. discrete.I prefer to use this as a platform for this and OTHERS who deserve a little praise.
