ABOUT DAVID I. GOMEZ
I come from financial and marketing teams in corporate settings. Yet my passion is communicating with others through my artwork. I am not an eloquent speaker so I have learned to speak through the voice of my artwork. My mission is to share images that are composed from what I have witnessed in life and in my career. My artwork has industrial elements, I add a lot of spreadsheet themes to my artwork, and I use hieroglyphs and shorthand to set images that are meant to evoke reflection or feelings. My process begins from a structured series of symbols, some are math symbols, language, or signage. This part of the process sets a societal structure or barrier from which I can base the initial balance of the piece. Next, I create chaos in any way I can imagine. I only stop short from destroying the integrity of the canvases but I do create a \"mess\" of color. My last step is to work with those elements to create order. This is the longest process as it requires for me to restore order and balance through meticulous small strokes and cross hatching. These resemble morse code or a crescendo of strokes working together in unison to cover the \"damage\" created by the chaos. I have succeeded when the viewer, unbeknownst to them, feel a sense of peace or calmness. That is, if calmness is the intent of my artwork.
