R&D themes: analytical and life sciences instrumentation, biomedical diagnostics Paraytec is a developer of high performance specialist detectors targeting the $30+ billion analytical and life sciences instrumentation market. We are a York based scientific instrument company specializing in ultraviolet imaging detection. Our core product, the ActiPix™ D200 UV Area Imaging System, is used to visualize and quantify target compounds, both in solution and in nanoparticle suspensions, flowing through capillaries or cuvettes. A key application is in assessing developability of biopharmaceutical and drug formulations. Paraytec recently completed an Innovate UK funded project “Towards a condensed platform for aggregation profiling” in collaboration with Malvern Panalytical, GSK, AstraZeneca, FUJIFILM Diosynth Biotechnologies, CPI and UCLan. The instrumentation, combining Paraytec’s detector with VICI’s True Nano UHPLC system, uses microbore SEC and Taylor Dispersion Analysis in a miniaturised setup. The approach has potential for use in BioPharm development screening and pre-formulation studies where benefits include insight to concentration dependent self-association and measurement of % aggregation in high concentration formulations without dilution. Recent extensions have been to critical quality attributes in formulations of Virus Like Particles for gene therapy.Paraytec holds patents in area imaging, dissolution imaging, permeation imaging, and viscosity measurement. Our technology is currently licensed to Pion Inc, for surface dissolution imaging including visualization of tablet dissolution and API release. In the field of Medical Diagnostics, Paraytec collaborates with the University of Sheffield on bladder cancer detection.A recent Eurostars project “AD Scanner for Prognosis of Alzheimer’s Disease by Blood Analysis” linked Paraytec with Karolinska Institutet and Biomotif AB in Sweden, Spectrometry Vision BV and VUMC in the Netherlands.
