David was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2006, although by then he had been coping with a number of Parkinson’s symptoms for several years. Since his diagnosis David has gradually reduced his workload to accommodate the impacts of this incurable, chronically painful and progressive disease on both him and his family. David continues to maintain a high level of fitness by working with his Personal Trainer, Nutritionist, Physiotherapist, Yoga and Pilates instructors to continually adapt an intensive exercise regime that challenges his illness head on. Through this he has managed to retain a reasonably good quality of life.David particularly appreciates the continued support of his Parkinson\'s Consultant at the Royal Infirmary Edinburgh, Dr. Richard Davenport and the local Parkinson\'s Nurse Consultants, led by Alison Stewart. Finally the support he has had from the Parkinson\'s branch in Edinburgh, has been exemplary.David is passionate about climate change and until recently was active within the Clean Energy Sector advising companies at both a strategic and a functional level. He gained his first outdoor qualification as a Ski Instructor in 1977, and then widened his skill set to enable him to gain a Summer and then a Winter Mountain Leader qualification. He also was an and an enthusiastic snow and ice climber and a qualified Climbing Instructor He had started work to gain the prestigious Mountain Guide qualification when he was diagnosed with Parkinson\'s. He also qualified as a Jungle Warefare Instructor (that proved very useful on the streets of Belfast, where the Battalion was sent at short notice rather than Brunei where David had planned and prepared to support the He is also an enthusiastic fisherman and he continues to teach budding fishers in the practice of this ancient sport. He was a robust hockey player who captained Sandhurst and represented The Royal Scots, the Army and Combined Services.
