Some conversations - or moments in time - can change the direction of your life.They give you new purpose. A new “why.”In April this year we lost a young man to suicide.Robert was just 21 years old I made a call to one of of my team to try and understand more and I remember sitting in silence, processing what I’d just heard. He told me that in his area, there were up to 15 men who if he got a call that day to say they’d died by suicide - he wouldn’t be shocked.In essence, we had people in our industry, our colleagues, who were a suicide risk - and we weren’t doing enough about it.In that moment, I made myself a promise: to do better, and to be better.That’s when No Guard Alone was born.Because no one working a door, guarding a site, or protecting others should ever feel they have to carry the weight of their struggles alone.But I knew that to bring it to life, we’d need the right partner. A charity whose values aligned with ours - one that put real-life stories and lived experience at the heart of everything they do.That’s why Tough To Talk stood out straight away. Their straight-talking, no-nonsense approach to men’s mental health is rooted in lived experience.They speak the language of the men they’re trying to reach - with honesty, compassion, and practical support that genuinely changes lives.And that kind of straight talking? It’s exactly what the security industry needs.So when Steve asked if I’d consider becoming an ambassador for the charity he’s built from the ground up, it was a very easy - and very humbling - “yes.”Here’s to tackling the male suicide crisis head-on, together - one real conversation at a time
