About David Fisher

David Fisher is the Director of the Forensic Science Program at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT)—home to New Jersey’s only FEPAC-accredited bachelor’s degree in Forensic Science, offering concentrations in Forensic Biology, Forensic Chemistry, and Digital Forensics.With over 20 years of experience in forensic biology and DNA analysis, David previously served as a Criminalist Supervisor in the Department of Forensic Biology at the New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner (OCME). There, he worked on hundreds of criminal cases—ranging from homicides and sexual assaults to property crimes—and has testified as an expert witness over 40 times. He was also part of the Research and Development unit, overseeing a team of criminalists and city research scientists dedicated to evaluating and validating emerging DNA testing methodologies for use in active casework.David is board-certified in General Criminalistics by the American Board of Criminalistics (ABC) and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS). He also serves as President of the New Jersey Association of Forensic Scientists (NJAFS), and is a member of the Council of Forensic Science Educators (COFSE).He holds an M.S. in Forensic Science from CUNY John Jay College of Criminal Justice, a B.S. in Biochemistry and Cell Biology from UC San Diego, and a graduate certificate in Forensic Investigative Genetic Genealogy from the University of New Haven. David is also the co-author of the widely used forensic textbook Techniques of Crime Scene Investigation, now in its 9th edition.
