General Counsel — former BigLaw Partner — Air Force VeteranU.S. lawyer with over 25 years of experience including as General Counsel of Volkswagen Group of America, Inc.(VWGoA) and as a Partner of Clifford Chance LLP. Leads a team of 25 lawyers handling the Volkswagen Group’s U.S. legal issues, including the U.S. aspects of the Diesel resolution and the Department of Justice Monitorship. Board member of VWGoA and of Electrify America LLC.At Volkswagen AG’s request, left private practice to take over the VWGoA legal team in February 2016 at the height of the Diesel crisis. Established the framework for interaction with multiple law firms and played an instrumental role in negotiating resolutions with U.S. federal and state regulators as well as litigating class actions relating to customer complaints. Recognized by the National Law Journal in 2018 for Outside Counsel Management and by Chambers and Partners in 2019 as one of 100 Global Influencers as in-house counsel.While at Clifford Chance, advised clients on transaction structures (including realistic alternatives), prepared and negotiated required documentation, and managed teams of lawyers and support staff to achieve clients’ objectives. Extensive experience practicing U.S. law in an international environment; advised on over 100 significant securities offerings and M&A transactions involving clients in industries ranging from aerospace to real estate, with strong emphasis on regulatory requirements. Military veteran, recalled to active duty following 9/11, promoted to Lieutenant Colonel, inactive since 2008. Dedicated husband and father of three fantastic children (ages 17, 15 and 11).
