ABOUT DAVID CHOWNS

Commissioned into the Royal Air Force in 1986, and sponsored by them through the completion of his first degree. Upon graduation, undertook Initial Officer Training and joined the Engineer (Aerosystems) Branch. Subsequently completed 12 tours of duty throughout the UK, covering a wide variety of leadership and management roles and regularly deploying on operations and exercises around the world. Retired from regular service in the RAF, having attained the rank of wing commander in April 2003, to take up the role of Bursar at Monmouth School in November 2010. On taking voluntary redundancy from the School in 2015, following a management restructure, established an aerospace engineering and project management consultancy, providing services to Defence Equipment & Support, the Ministry of Defence\'s acquisition management organisation.Returned to the RAF in January 2018, as a full time reservist, in the role of Military Continuing Airworthiness Manager and Chief Air Engineer for Hawk T2 and T1/T1A aircraft in 22 Group. Rejoined the regular RAF in December 2020, since when I have undertaken engineering roles on Poseidon MRA1, Protector RG1, and Eurofighter Typhoon. An accomplished, successful and internationally experienced Senior Executive with considerable experience in leadership, engineering, procurement/acquisition, finance, project management, change management, relationship management and output delivery. Significant experience of delivering to demanding timescales, often under the most challenging of conditions. A trusted, personable and inclusive manager with a proven track record of strategic thinking, innovation and leading military and civilian personnel, and who has also gained considerable commercial awareness and acumen during my sabbatical from service with the Royal Air Force.
