About David Carney
I have worked throughout my career to develop new technologies into product designs. Some examples of products I have worked on- A space plane flight software verification- ECLS and TCS subsystems for a commercial space station- An application specific super computer that included an optical backplane for 16 Gbps optical data signals, a custom 1.6 Gbps source synchronous interface for low latency FPGA to FPGA connection over a backplane and cables, and fan cooling of 3 KW in a 10U Chassis- A life sciences automated cell selection device that was based on a modular architecture and a custom defined CANOpen protocol. This device also included peristaltic pump designed to achieve precision fluid movements across a wide range of operating speeds- A life sciences diagnostic assay reader that included laser diode light to excite fluorescence to be measured- 3.125 Gbps wired serial communication system with custom designed ECC implemented in an FPGA (masters degree capstone project)- A medication dispensing device for secure and accurate dispensing of medication in a clinical environmentI have held the following roles; digital hardware board level design and testing, FPGA design and verification, signal integrity expert, software design and testing, technical and systems lead, and systems engineer. The constant throughout, is that I have learned new technologies, tools, and analytical techniques and applied them to the products I have worked on. I have built a career by figuring things out.My goal is to use my engineering experience, skills, and creativity to apply digital systems to challenging engineering problems, especially in the areas of autonomous robotics and space exploration.
