About David Calviello

I am a Superior Court Judge in northern New Jersey. I was appointed to the bench in March 2024. Previously, after a 25 year career in public service working on behalf of crime victims and prosecuting criminal offenders, in February 2022 I transitioned to private practice as Partner with the litigation firm - Calcagni Kanefsky LLP (Newark). I joined an exceptional staff of experienced litigators and skilled negotiators. The areas I concentrated on were: Investigations, White Collar Criminal Defense, and Employment Litigation.Relying on my litigation experience, I assisted individual clients, including businesses, navigate the complicated world that is the criminal justice system. I also handled a variety of employment matters and investigations on behalf of government entities, management, and individual employees.Prior to private practice I was honored to be promoted by then Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal (former NJ Attorney General) to Trial Chief of the Bergen County Prosecutor\'s Office, entrusting me with the supervision of a staff of trial attorneys who handled the majority of criminal cases in Bergen County. As a leader, mentor, and teacher, I empowered my staff to hone their trial advocacy skills and gain confidence to handle the toughest criminal prosecutions. Throughout my prosecutorial career, I always sought justice in every case, for every victim as well as for every defendant.    Represent clients at all stages of criminal investigation and defense in both federal and state systems. Over 25 years of trial experience, having tried more than 60 jury trials. Represent individual clients and businesses in all aspects of employment investigations, litigation, and dispute resolutions. Regularly represent clients in discrimination claims. Advise and counsel employees and employers in managing conflict in the workplace and effectively resolve disputes by favorable settlement or trial. Advocate on behalf of individual clients who have been victims of crime as well as other forms of harm, including cyber bullying and harassment.Regularly consult with colleagues and potential clients on a variety of legal matters including criminal, employment, labor, government affairs, associations, professional ethics, and all types of personal injury matters.
