I currently work as Political Affairs Officer in the Eastern Africa and Indian Ocean team in the Eastern Africa Division in the Departments of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs and Peace Operations in the United Nations Secretariat. I cover Kenya, the East Africa Community (EAC) and Seychelles. I am also back-up for Mauritius, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda:Within delegated authority, I am responsible for the following duties: •Gather, select and analyze information contained in communications and publications received from different sources, including the media pertaining to Kenya, EAC and Seychelles.•Maintains up-to-date knowledge of events relating to political issues, in general, and in particular as they affect Kenya, EAC and Seychelles.•Keeps abreast of latest trends and developments in the area of assignment and provides inputs on issues to senior officials and colleagues in the in the Eastern Africa Division in the Departments of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs and Peace Operations in the United Nations Secretariat and the department’s Liaison Office in Nairobi, Kenya, as required.•Maintains contacts with other sectors of the UN, other international organizations and governments on coordination and policy matters. •Monitors actions taken by intergovernmental groups, UN organizations, government and non-governmental organizations.•Selects, classifies and stores in computerized databases information relating to potential disputes and conflicts involving assigned countries or region.•Participates in fact-finding and other missions to countries within Eastern Africa, as required.•Participates in provision of secretariat services to Security Council, General Assembly, subsidiary organizations, negotiating bodies, conferences, meetings, and /or special missions.•Prepares meetings of the SG/DSG/USG with officials from countries under the Organization\'s purview. •Performs other related duties as required.
