ABOUT DAVID BENT
David has over 20 years of experience leading sustainability as a strategy advisor, catalyst and facilitator. He is the Founder of the Atelier for What\'s Next, a studio for initiatives at the frontier of generating a better future. Think: a venture builder, but for any kind of organisation, project and so on that is trying to make the world a better place.Moving into its fourth year, the Atelier has three main strands:(1) Using futures for decision-making. The work with a shipping NGO on that industry has become a new method, Influential Trajectories, which creates a shared commitment to systemic investments and initiatives that drive towards ambitious outcomes. Also, a new project with Chatham House uses AI to enhance horizon-scanning.(2) For-impact start-up ecosystem. David is a Venture Partner at Conduit Connect, a Fellow at Zinc and a Mentor at Imperial\'s Greenhouse.(3) Culture upstream of politics. Supporting Absurd Intelligence in hugely ambitious mission: foster a positive, citizen-led transformation of how we live in the face of climate breakdown by establishing and enacting a simple narrative truth: “We can – and will – collectively forge a better way to live.”David has just started a doctorate at Ashridge Hult International Business School on the practice of running the Atelier, which includes questions from how does someone lead such an ambitious, early stage organisation, to how can we contribute to industrial revolutions on a deadline?Previously, David worked for 13 years at global NGO Forum for the Future, helping leading corporates be more successful by creating a sustainable future. He worked with noted companies like mobile network O2, Indian conglomerate Arditya Birla, and global luxury hotel chain The Peninsula.Since 2016 he has been exploring \'what can we do in these powerful times?’ (now a podcast). He is an Edmund Hillary Fellowship, one of 500 or so innovators committed to New Zealand as a basecamp for global impact, and Honorary Lecturer at the UCL Institute for Sustainable Resources (also with a podcast of practitioners telling stories of innovation for sustainability). He was chair of EIRIS Foundation, a charity that is pioneering the next steps for sustainable finance.
