Calgary, AB, CA

As a Training Officer with the Calgary Fire Training Academy, I deliver theoretical instruction and practical skill development to new firefighter recruits, while also coordinating and administering the Calgary Fire Cadet Program. The Fire Cadet Program is a structured work‑experience initiative that uses firefighting skills as a vehicle to develop high‑school youth not only in technical competencies, but also in leadership, teamwork, community service, communication, self‑discipline, pride, and respect.I previously served as a Mental Resiliency Field Trainer, where I educated firefighters, as well as internal and external partners, on the signs, symptoms, and impacts of mental injuries. This work focused on early recognition—both in ourselves and in one another—to support prevention and reduce the impact of mental injuries within the fire service. I continue to integrate mental resiliency principles into recruit and cadet training.I am proud to continue serving the community through education‑ and training‑focused initiatives that strengthen both operational readiness and organizational well‑being.

ABOUT DAVID BAYRACK

I am a people‑centered, values‑based fire service leader with a deep commitment to principled leadership in complex, high‑risk public service environments. I believe leadership is not a formula or a “paint‑by‑numbers” exercise - people, teams, and organizations are dynamic, and effective leadership requires adaptability, trust, and sound judgment grounded in values. My leadership approach is rooted in the belief that people are an organization’s greatest asset. In large, unionized emergency service organizations, creating the conditions for engagement, contribution, and professional growth is both a leadership responsibility and a strategic imperative. I focus on building inclusive, accountable cultures where expectations are clear, voices are heard, and members are empowered to contribute meaningfully to organizational success. Throughout my career, I have developed strong capabilities in emergency service management, strategic planning, resource and financial management, and organizational governance. This includes experience with capital budgeting, OH & S program development, and data‑informed decision‑making, supporting sustainable operations while enabling leaders to remain focused on people, performance, and long‑term organizational health. As my career has progressed, my passion has increasingly centered on leadership, culture, and organizational development. I bring a strong foundation in interpersonal communication, organizational behavior, team development, performance coaching, ethics, and critical thinking. My goal is to foster cohesive, high‑trust teams capable of navigating complexity while serving firefighters and the public with professionalism and pride.I am currently completing a Master of Arts in Leadership at Royal Roads University, further strengthening my capacity to lead change, develop people, and align organizational values with strategic outcomes.I am proud to serve alongside dedicated professionals and remain committed to building strong, unified organizations that evolve through thoughtful leadership, collaboration, and shared purpose.
