ABOUT DAVID BARRY
I am an Assistant Professor of Early Childhood Education at West Chester University of PA and received my PhD at the University of Texas at Austin. Having taught kindergarten in the Boston Public Schools for 10 years, I have had the incredible opportunity year after year to witness and help young children develop their capabilities academically, socially, and emotionally. A few years into my teaching career, I began my Ed.M. at the Harvard Graduate School of Education (HGSE). Upon graduating, I was asked to stay on at HGSE as a Teaching Fellow for a course on childhood trauma that I had taken as a student. The course completely changed my view on teaching young children, particularly when it comes to young children\'s behavior, their emotional well-being, and how teachers can support children and families who have experienced trauma. I have led several workshops at the elementary school and university level for pre- and in-service teachers, administrators, and teacher educators on trauma-informed teaching \"best practices\" and the importance of self-compassion for teachers who support traumatized students.
