Dave is phenomenal.\"- Sara Ogger, PhD, Executive Director, New York Council for the Humanities, New York NY Dave Ruch is a full-time musician, educator, researcher and performer who travels regionally and internationally from his home base in Buffalo NY, giving hundreds of concerts and workshops each year for schools, music festivals, libraries, historical societies, professional conferences, folk music organizations, museums and community events. Dave specializes in historical and traditional music from New York State - Erie Canal songs, Adirondack ballads, Native American chants, Great Lakes shanties, War of 1812 laments and other forgotten music from New York State\'s farms, battlefields, lumber camps and kitchens. Ruch\'s music has been featured on American Public Media and on stages across the US, Canada and the UK. His most recent CD, entitled \"The Oldest Was Born First\", features thirteen tracks of New York State music.

   Public Scholars is the newest New York Council for the Humanities program. It promotes vibrant public humanities engagement across New York State by offering a selection of dynamic, compelling presentations facilitated by humanities scholars. The Public Scholars program replaces the Council’s Speakers in the Humanities program, and both expands upon and deepens the premise of that longstanding program.Any tax-exempt organization in New York State is eligible to apply.
