ABOUT DAVID HUGHES

Chartered Civil Engineer with 15 years’ experience specialising in flood risk assessment, hydrology, hydraulic modelling and GIS. I have extensive experience with a wide range of hydrology and hydraulic modelling tools including Flood Modeller, TUFLOW (Classic, HPC, and FV), MIKE Flood, Infoworks ICM, HEC-RAS, ReFH2, WINFAP and OpenFOAM (CFD), applied across river, surface water, coastal and infrastructure projects. My work spans the full project lifecycle from initial scoping, data analysis and model build through to reporting, technical assurance and engagement with regulators and stakeholders. Alongside hydraulic modelling, I use QGIS, ArcGIS, MapInfo, Global Mapper, and AutoCAD for spatial analysis, supported by Python scripting to automate workflows, improve efficiency and provide greater confidence in outputs.I enjoy developing and mentoring colleagues and helping teams deliver robust, evidence-based solutions. My particular interest is in climate change and resilience, exploring innovative approaches to understand future risk and support better decision making.Outside of work I am usually still around water, often out canoeing, which keeps me connected to the environments I work with every day.If you would like to connect, discuss projects or opportunities, or simply exchange ideas, get in touch: d••••••••@arthian.com 07•••••••93
