  1. Senior Applied Materials Engineer - Polymers

    Meta

    Apr 2020 — Present

Technical lead for polymers and composites, responsible for thermoplastics and elastomers material development for VR, AR, and Portal product lines. Focused on development, characterization, and qualification of innovative and environmentally friendly materials that enable new user experiences in the VR and AR world. Helping to build community and bring people closer together through the use of technology. Developing and evaluating new materials, production processes, and test methods by engaging with suppliers and through evaluation of technical literature. Leading screening of thermoplastics and elastomers including evaluation of performance using standardized test specimens and molded articles. Partnering with suppliers to provide feedback on the performance of their materials and identify direction for development. Developing KPI\'s and CTQ\'s for materials to ensure consistent quality and performance and meet user experience needs. Leading efforts in sustainable polymers development including material characterization, standards development, and goal road mapping. Working to reduce carbon footprint of materials to help enable carbon neutrality by 2030 while maintaining quality and performance. Performing injection molding simulation using Autodesk Moldflow software as an aid in material development. Comparing existing materials to new materials using detailed analysis to enable early screening and identification of potential materials and process issues. Supporting root cause and corrective action activities related to field failures of consumer electronics hardware by using standard RCCA principles (problem verification, containment, fishbone diagram, failure analysis, 5 Whys, etc.). Developing test plans and corrective action plans related to material failures. Documenting and implementing lessons learned to ensure future success and drive best practices across the organization.
