As a reporter covered, in succession, the farm beat, the courts (including U.S. District Court in Madison, WI), Madison city hall, the Wisconsin Legislature and governor\'s office. Was a member of Associated Press Managing Editors association from 19••••83; then the American Society of Newspaper Editors from \'83 to present. Serve as the chairman of ASNE\'s freedom of information committee and was president of the Wisconsin Freedom of Information Council for 15 years. Also a member of the Society of Professional Journalists.Specialties: Was union president (american newspaper guild)\'68-\'70; negotiated two contracts with management.
