Our work has inspired organisations across the world to run similar events in India, Cameroon, Gibraltar & Uganda April 2015 I took up the post of CEO2016 celebrated our 25th anniversary year, launched the Legacy Appeal, so far raised over supporting jobs for young disabled people, launched Phoenix Project & Accessible Warrington Pledge2017 launch Scoota-Safe Campaign, launched Avitar Project, Beyond the Scars join WDP, launched Monday Club

ABOUT DAVE THOMPSON
Dave is a resilient and motivational leader with a passionate for disability equality. He has over 40yrs experience in the 3rd sector and has led the development of services from inception to international recognition. In 2015 he retired from a 20 year career in the NHS, 10 years as the Assistant Director of Inclusion & Partnerships, returning to the NHS in 2021 as an Associate None Executive Director at Warrington and Halton NHS Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust. He has chaired/presented at conferences in the UK & Europe on disability, independent living. He has presented lectures/training to over staff from statutory/private/3rd sector. His articles have been published in various journals, he was on the judging panel for the 2015 Accessible Britain Awards & 2017/18/19 Excellence in Diversity Awards and Inclusive Companies Awards in 2022.He is the founder & Co-ordinator of Disability Awareness Day now in its 31st year it is the world\'s largest pan disability event with 250 exhibitors & visitors each year. Promoting a \'can do\' culture, DAD has helped raise over £1million for local charities. He supported the development of events in Gibraltar, India, Cameroon & Uganda.He was a founder of Warrington Disability Partnership & its Disability Trading Company, Patron at the Foundation for Peace, Director of ELLA Performance Group & President of Cheshire Police Museum & Warrington Sea Cadets. Dave is a member of various local and regional health and social care boards, and the national Wheelchair Alliance. He uses his lived experience to influence social change. In 1996 he became a Fellow of Warrington Collegiate Institute, in 2001 he received an MBE for services for disabled people, in 2004 the “Paul Harris Fellowship” International award from Rotary, in 2006 he was commissioned as a Deputy Lieutenant for Cheshire, in 2011 he received an Honorary MBA from Chester University & a Lifetime Achievement Award from WIRE FM, in 2013 he won the Entrepreneur of Excellence Award for Disability at the National Diversity Awards & in 2014 he received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Warrington Guardian & in 2018 he received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Warrington Business Awards. In 2019 he received an Everyday Hero Award from Active Cheshire. He is a full-time wheelchair user as a result of a spinal cord injury sustained in 1989 & a survivor of cancer in and 2021.
