About Dave Owen

David C. Owen has served the great State of Kansas as a both a State Senator and Lieutenant Governor. He is currently President and CEO of Equivest, LLC, a commercial real estate firm. Dave has nearly sixty years of experience in the financial services industry, having served as Founder and President of two banks in the Kansas City Area, and as Regional Manager for Stephens, Inc, an investment banking firm headquartered in Little Rock, Arkansas. Dave has extensive experience in mergers and acquisitions, and in the financial reporting requirements of public companies. Dave was Co-Founder and CEO of ICOP, a global market leader in motion video products for First Responders. ICOP received the Patriot Award from the U.S. Department of Defense in 2008. Dave took ICOP public (NASDAQ) in 2006. He was a member of the Board of The Greater Kansas City Fellowship of Christian Athletes for sixteen years. He studied at Ohio State University and Rutgers University in conjunction with the American Bankers Association and earned a Bachelor’s in Business Administration and Economics from Ottawa University, in Ottawa, Kansas.

   The David C. Owen Leadership Institute at Ottawa University develops leadership and coaching skills of our business students, student athletes, student leaders, coaches, graduate students and corporate clients. Central to the commitment is to develop whole people who are highly effective and guided by Christian principles to function with a strong moral compass. The Institute will provide personal coaching, seminars, workshops, training, and speakers to strengthen the impact of Ottawa University graduates and colleagues as they serve organizations, teams and churches in their respective communities. Leaders may be born, but their skills, knowledge and personal techniques are not necessarily born with them. Leadership, on the other hand, is developed, matured, cultivated and refined through coaching, practice and the fires of real-world experience. The transformational power of effective leadership is well recognized the world over. What is not so well recognized is what it takes to develop it.
