About Dave Leimsieder

Dave Leimsieder is a skilled & seasoned professional with over two decades of youth development, social/community service, and organizational leadership experience. Dave is a visionary leader with a deep rooted passion for driving change and real impact. Dave is presently serving as the Executive Director of Beyond Emancipation (B:E), based in Oakland, CA. B:E is the Housing Navigator and FYI (Foster Youth to Independence) provider for Alameda County, and provides coaching, education, housing, independent living skills, and resources through critical programs that support foster care youth that are nearing adulthood. For four years prior, Dave served as member of the Board of Directors and as the inaugural chair of the Programs Committee. Dave most recently served as the Recreation Services Manager (Assistant Director) with the City of Alameda Recreation and Park Department. Previously Dave served for three years as Director of Youth Programs and Associate Director of the Recreational Sports Department at the University of California, Berkeley. Prior to serving at UC Berkeley, Dave was the Director of Operations with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Contra Costa County after relocating to the Bay Area in 2017. Previously while residing in Salt Lake City, Dave served as an Area Director with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Salt Lake, and worked with Playworks Utah.Earlier in his career, Dave served as a Physical Education Specialist at Robison Elementary School in Tucson, Arizona, and worked directly with inner city youth through implementation and leadership of youth recreation, and Adaptive recreation programs with the City of Tucson Parks & Recreation Department. Dave also worked as a Group Home staff member with the Devereux Foundation supporting youth in Foster Care and/or involved with the Juvenile Justice System. Dave has previous foster care lived experience, and has used this experience to advance the lives of youth presently living in foster care through advocacy, and mentorship. Dave has extended his advocacy work in support of LGBTQ youth in schools across the west coast. Dave was a founding member of the National Association of GSA Networks.In December 2020, Dave was appointed to the Contra Costa County - Family And Children\'s Trust (FACT) committee by the Contra County Board of Supervisors. FACT provides funding for local non-profits that support children and families, child abuse prevention, and behavioral health support. Dave was elected Chairman of the FACT committee in September 2021, a role he held until his term ended in 2023.

    As Executive Director Dave provides leadership to all aspects of Beyond Emancipation’s strategy and programs, including developing new initiatives and programs. In this role Dave works closely with the Board of Directors and related committees to ensure the effective implementation, advocacy, and fundraising objectives of the agency, as well as support optimal Board functioning and related professional development.Dave is responsible for leading strategic planning processes to advance established Board/Staff consensus around organizational growth goals. Dave heads up the Senior Leadership Team (Director of Development, Director of Human Resources, Director of Program Operations, and Director of Impact & Strategic Initiatives) which actively oversees all aspects of the organization including effective delivery and implementation of the organization’s proprietary coaching framework, and critical programs that support housing stability for youth that have aged out of foster care.As the head of the agency, Dave provides direction and input on donor proposals/presentations, messaging, fundraising and visibility strategies and campaigns including donor events and appeals to corporate, foundation, and community partners. Dave is directly responsible for cultivating and maintaining key relationships with government agency programming partners, agency leaders, and local elected officials. Dave additionally lend support to the Programs team in recommending improvements for new programs and services, as well as new approaches to cultivate and retain donors and strategic partners.Dave serves as a key ambassador for the B:E mission by creating and sharing success stories and achievements that highlight and advance B:E\'s mission’s urgency and community impact to raise the organization\'s visibility and profile. Additionally Dave is responsible for overseeing & managing a $3.3M annual budget in line with governmental agency and foundation grant requirements.
