About Dave King

Dave King, CFA is the lead Portfolio Manager for Palermo Capital Management, a Newport Beach, California-based long/short equity fund focused on the Consumer, Media, and Technology sectors. Dave has more than 20 years of Wall Street experience, analyzing companies across multiple sectors and meeting hundreds of C-suite executives on behalf of investment banks. He has a passion for stock picking and better understanding companies that are driving disruption and embracing digitization, particularly in consumer-facing industries. King monitors more than 500 stocks, including digitally native vertical brands, ecommerce marketplaces, digital platforms, media and social media companies, brick & mortar retailers, casinos and online gambling companies, real estate companies and homebuilders, and other consumer discretionary and consumer staples companies. Dave began his career in 2002 with Capital Group / American Funds, an investment firm with $2-plus trillion in assets under management (as of November 2020). In 2003, he relocated to San Francisco to join the Equity Research team for Banc of America Securities, where he held roles of increasing responsibility analyzing the Technology and Casino Gaming sectors. In 2006, King joined RBC Capital Markets’ Greenwich Survey’ ranked Banks team, where he was primarily responsible for coverage of Money Center and West Coast Regional Banks in the years leading up to and through the Global Financial Crisis. During that timeframe, Mr. King led efforts to understand banks’ exposures to collateralized debt obligations (CDOs) and real estate construction loans, often spearheading alpha-driving events like residential & commercial real estate tours and stalled project visits. Mr. King was promoted to assume additional coverage responsibilities in 2010. Dave moved home to Southern California in 2011 to join ROTH Capital Partners, a full-service investment bank focused on small cap and microcap equities. During his nine years with ROTH, he was primarily responsible for lead coverage of consumer discretionary companies, including brands and brick & mortar retailers. He also led the firm’s initial push into coverage of digitally native vertical brands and ecommerce marketplaces. At ROTH, Mr. King played an integral role in the due diligence process for several IPOs and secondary offerings. King received a B.S. degree in Business Administration with a Finance Emphasis from the University of Southern California’s Marshall School of Business in 2001. He earned his CFA designation in 2006.
