I was promoted to a newly created role to drive engagement with financial services regulators worldwide with the goal of educating key public sector decision-makers regarding cloud technologies / artificial intelligence (AI), modernizing legislation / regulation, and ultimately spurring the adoption of cloud computing by leading global financial institutions. I have also played a key role in obtaining new business for Microsoft’s cloud platform among major GSIFIs and leading ISVs. Some of the key ways in which I have made a difference include: Orchestrated Microsoft’s submission of comments to European Commission regarding proposed Digital Operational Resiliency Act (DORA), providing regulatory framework for oversight of all critical infrastructure, including providers of cloud services. Recognized as most significant policy development in Europe re cloud computing. Serve as primary strategy leader in addressing these requirements by orchestrating amongst various teams within Microsoft preparation for such changes. Submitted comments to U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing & Urban Affairs regarding designation of cloud computing as critical infrastructure and engaged with representatives of U.S. Treasury, averting policy or regulatory change re treatment of cloud computing as financial market utility. Acted as catalyst in modernization of regulatory guidance addressing use of cloud by financial institutions in Europe for 1st time. Issued by European Insurance & Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA) and European Securities & Markets Authority (ESMA) and in alignment with European Banking Authority (EBA) policies. Collaborated with Securities Futures Commission of Hong Kong to remove former requirement mandating cloud providers serving financial institutions maintain data centers locally (data localization).
