About Darshan Karia

I currently hold position in development of IBM Analytics Engine team, which is responsible for hadoop/spark based service offering on IBM Cloud. In order to achieve this, we use various technologies like java, shell scripting, pythonDocker, Kubernetes, etc.Before this, I was part of the development team responsible for BigData related IBM product, named BigInsights. Here I mainly worked with back-end java and shell scripting. Previously I had also worked with development of java based web/desktop applications. I am also flexible in working with new technologies.In my graduate program, I studied courses focused on web development and xml, object oriented designing, mobile phone app development along with other useful courses.I did fall internship/co-op with Ericsson - Silicon Valley in 2011. I had been working with IBM, Princeton, NJ since my graduation in Spring 2012. 1. Software Engineer

   In year 2014, I worked on Installer of product InfoSpheere BigInsights (based on BigData). I was responsible for deploying and configuring various components as part of it.In Year 2015, I worked on preparing Quick Start Edition of the product BigInsights. We began with delivering it in VMWare Virtual Machine format, but after 2-3 months moved to using Docker Images as mode of delivery for Quick Start Edition. As part of Quick Start Edition Image, I perform various optimisations in memory footprint as well as work on automation of the image creation.Technologies: Java, Shell Scripting, dockerIn year 2016, I started contributing in BigInsights on Cloud. My key role was on supporting the BigInsights Value-add services on the cloud platform. I also worked on various features to the product deployment process, which enhances security and usability.In year 2017, we continued to develop features on top of what was built in year 2016, although in different final form. With new requirements, we started working on some new features. As of recently, I am working on developing provisioning system update feature using ansible. We also made this service available to publich via offering name of Analytics Engine, as it provided usage of distributed computing capabilities like hadoop, spark, hive, etc. We made this offering available in cloud platform, with pay as you go model.In year 2018, enhanced the Analytics Engine with bug-fixes and features.In year 2019, I worked with kubernetes operators, which required learning a little bit of golang. Used this knowledge to handle bug-fixes for a cli project for our team, which was developed in golang. I also got to explore VPC and how it works and it can be leveraged in our service. Worked on a feature to only restrict access to the service via private endpoint.In year 2020, so far I have been working with creating a web-wrapper on top of the open-source helm3 software development kit.
