About Darryl Weeks

I have always been really interested in technology, computers, robots, video games, you name it. What really got me into the computer science and I.T. realm of things was a class I took in high school. My teacher was really laid back and he pretty much let us explore this field at our own pace. He would introduce us to different concepts and have us do the required curriculum but anytime we wanted to explore or had any questions he was right there with an answer, or he would tell us what direction we needed to go in to find the answer. While taking that class in high school, I was able to explore different fundamentals of I.T. I troubleshot issues, fixed computers and I even coded a bit. I loved every bit of learning I.T. in that classroom and I have not stopped loving it. I learn new things every day, and technology is always changing in new and exciting ways. I took this love and passion for I.T. and ran with it during my service in the Marine Corps. When I got to my MOS school, I realized that I.T. was more than writing some batch files to mess with my friends. The course was long and extensive and gave me the foundation of knowledge and skills I needed to be successful in my field. Most importantly I learned it takes years of hard work and dedication to master. Even then, this field is constantly changing, and you must continue to learn and adapt. For the first seven months of my career, I was able to expand my knowledge on how servers and different assets interact with each other and learned how to maintain a successful network. I also was able to learn how the different operating systems and system images worked with each other. I spent most of this time running updates, fixing computers, troubleshooting, and resolving issues customers were having. When I switched units, I took on the role of a help desk technician. I directly interacted with customers, troubleshooting their issues either over the phone or in person. By fixing and troubleshooting computers, printers and networks, I was able to expand my knowledge and skills over the course of the next ten months. I switched units one last time and I served as a system administrator and an information security analyst. Here I was able to learn how to manage servers, databases and a multitude of new assets and networks. I was also learning how to recognize security issues and resolve them. I became one of the only two fully certified GSSO’s on base at that time.
