About Alex Darrow
Hi, I’m Alex - a designer based in Seattle. I’ve been designing products for almost three decades but I’ve had a lifelong interest in technology. As a kid I built up PCs with sound cards, video cards and modems just to see how I could communicate and interact with other people.In college I worked in a Language, Memory and Cognition Laboratory and continued my research work afterwards in Boston. I blended my passions for technology and psycholinguistics and designed some of the earliest commercial Voice User Interfaces.I then studied Human Computer Interaction at Carnegie Mellon and have been designing communication and collaboration products on the west coast ever since at small startups and large companies. Before COVID, I went back to the University of Washington to study data visualization and designed the first version of Microsoft EDU Insights. Currently, I\'m working in Microsoft Education to build products to help learners at all levels.

Jan 2020 — Present · Redmond, WA, US
Designed the end to end experience for Microsoft\'s Reading Coach - both student and teacher experiences. Built high fidelity prototypes and tested remotely during COVID. Developed vision videos to help guide and inspire the product team. Currently Vibe-coding feature updates to OneNote Class Notebook and other products such as Search Progress.
