Assists the County Manager in managing overall county operations, with oversight responsibilities for Finance and Budget, Human Resources and Information Technology. Johnson County is the largest county in Kansas encompassing 478 sq miles in the Kansas City metropolitan area, including 20 incorporated cities, with an estimated population of people. Under the council-manager form of government, more than 4,400 FTE’s support over 450 services through an annual budget of $1.9 billion. In 2025, Forbes Magazine recognized Johnson County Government as the 5th best place to work (public and private) in the state of Kansas. Johnson County is proud to be amongst the top 2% of all counties that have achieved a Triple credit rating and ranked 3rd on Niche’s 2022 list of Best Counties to live in America and was named the healthiest county in Kansas the same year.
