Mr. Sand has been at Frank Church since it opened its doors in 2008. He currently teaches English, Creative Writing, and Film to grades 9-12. He is a Mentor Teacher, is a member of the Pathways to Success committee, assisted in launching and facilitating Idaho Lives (Sources of Strength) onsite, served on the Mission Statement committee, and is a member of the Parent Involvement Team, and Lunch Duty Teams. He is also part of the Professional Learning Community break out groups, which have explored the topics of resiliency, literary inventions, forming and breaking habits, best approaches to grading, EQ (Emotional Intelligence), trauma (CRM), student accountability, story genre, and tools for creative writing. In Spring 2020, Darren was hired to help out as an assistant track coach at West Jr. High. Several track running records have been set during his time.(7th grade 100 at 12.32; 7th grade boys 4x100m; 200m at 25.59; 8th grade girls 800m and 1600m records - 2:36 and 5:39). In Boise, before teaching at Frank Church, Darren taught for 1 year at Mt. Cove alternative high school (20••••02), 7 years at Fort Boise alternative mid-high school (20••••08), and for three years at alternative summer school - Mt. Cove and Borah H.S. locations (20••••04).
