ABOUT DARREN MCMINN

Hello profile viewers.I am a lay ordained Buddhist practitioner striving to practice a kind and compassionate life. I have been fortunate to benefit from the help and wisdom of others, such that I am now a Buddhist Chaplain and professionally qualified and experienced health, safety and human factors engineer and accident investigator.I was diagnosed late in life with ASD and ADHD which explains some of my traits including my insatiable curiosity and desire to learn and seek fairness and calmness in my environment. Although it has been a struggle dealing with high sensitivity, time blindness, distractibility and hyperfocus, I have used my intuition and self resolve to identify and develop coping mechanisms such as mindfulness & meditation and use of technology (I love gadgets that make life easier and safer). This insight was a key driver in my fascination with the human mind and the field of human factors. Developing shortly afterwards was my interest in all things safety related and I could see the deep connection with human factors.Current topics I am working on or interested in include: Product Safety Capability and Governance (Aviation), development of safety specialists (NHS and Engineering), Process Safety Management, Safety Culture, Cyber Security & Functional Safety, Patient Safety, Spiritual and Palliative Care, Interfaith, Diversity and Inclusion. More recently; AI Safety and Ethics (NHS and Engineering). Safety regulations, qualification/verification using MBSE (primarily in Airworthiness).I have a long term interest in \'Right Livelihood\', ethical living, social justice, moral injury, military ethics and international arms trade.
