Responsible for the line management and career development of the clinical pathology scientific technical staff.• Ensures compliance of self and direct reports with safety regulations, SOPs, GLP guidelines and study protocols; directs revisions to clinical pathology SOPs, safety regulations, and study protocols; coordinates responses and corrective actions taken in response to internal audits. • Serves as the primary contact and subject matter expert within the clinical pathology laboratory for all regulatory interactions.• Reviews draft/final study protocols and provides feedback to relevant stakeholders.• Directs conduct of basic and specialized scientific testing to ensure timeliness, technical and scientific excellence and quality/compliance.• Approves reagent and supply purchases; manages reagent and instrument service contracts; coordinates administration of new and ongoing contracts and purchase of computer hardware/ software. Serves as the clinical pathology representative for facility-related modifications and infrastructure issues.• Works with the Clinical Pathology Management and department head to incorporate new technology and techniques as appropriate; evaluates, modifies, and implements laboratory procedures to maintain a “state-of-the-art” laboratory. Makes recommendations and directs the investigation, development, and validation of new assays/analytical instruments to improve laboratory capabilities; prepares capital budget requests; initiates the negotiation process in association with BMS Global Shared Services (GSS) and clinical pathology management.• Consults scientists within BMS departments as well as scientists outside of BMS on appropriate clinical pathology technical issues.• Stays current in the field of Clinical Pathology through regular review of literature and participation in professional laboratory organizations and meetings; researches/communicates new technical information.
