About Darren Conner
I serve as chief operating officer of Dewberry, a leading, market-facing architecture, engineering, and construction firm. In this role, I oversee business development and strategic planning for the firm’s 60 offices, which provide architecture; construction; engineering; environmental; geospatial, mapping, and survey; planning, consulting, and advisory; and technology services.My career with Dewberry began as a civil engineer in 1984, and I bring over 40 years of experience to the firm. Prior to being promoted to COO, I served as president of Dewberry Engineers Inc, the firm’s nationwide engineering practice. I led the company’s Corporate Accounts Initiative in its beginning which resulted in significant growth in our private sector business. My accomplishments also include leading Dewberry’s growth strategy in the Southeast. I also led the acquisition and integration of two Florida engineering firms whose client base align with Dewberry’s culture. The acquisitions have added nearly 250 employees to the firm. I am a member of the Virginia State Board for Community College and a Past Chair for Danville Community College’s Educational Foundation Board of Directors. I was selected to the Academy of Distinguished Alumni for the Virginia Tech Charles E. Via, Jr. Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.I earned my bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Virginia Tech and an associate’s degree in pre-engineering from Danville Community College. I am a licensed professional engineer in a dozen states.
