The mission of The ROC is to provide technical construction skills and job readiness training, mentorships, paid apprenticeships and permanent job placement for students attending high schools in under-served areas of Mecklenburg County. The ROC construction trade school is now fully integrated into 4 high schools (West Mecklenburg, Harding, Chambers and Phillip O. Berry). The ROC provide 3 core services to our students which all align with the needs of major construction employers and Mecklenburg County’s desired workforce outcomes:1. Construction Skills Training in electrical and HVAC technology, advanced carpentry and construction management. Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC) and privately hired ROC instructors provide this valuable skills training via the Career & College Promise, Workforce Continuing Education and / or NCCER Certification pathways.2. Job Readiness and Soft Skills Training to empower our students to work as a team, handle conflict, stay off their phone, etc.3. Summer Apprenticeships that puts students on a job site at ages 16, 17 and 18 and permanent job placements thereafter. This is the secret sauce of The ROC program where real life situations hit our students head on, where employers mentor them and where students are treated like adults and expected to perform as such.
