ABOUT DARRAGH F.
Urban Planner with international experience across Canada, Ireland, the UK, and Belgium. I’ve worked in municipal governments, a national utility, a private planning consultancy, and an EU institution. I focus on community planning, policy analysis, GIS (mapping) analysis, and creating clear, accessible planning materials that help people understand what’s happening in their neighbourhoods.Currently a Planning Assistant with the City of Vancouver’s Villages Planning Program, across 17 Villages. My work includes youth engagement, open-house materials, outreach with community organisations, parcel-level GIS analysis, and producing map series and land-use graphics that align with citywide standards. I also support policy interpretation and background research for village-scale planning directions.Previously, I worked with the City of Burnaby’s Neighbourhood Planning & Urban Design Unit and Planning & Development Department, gaining experience in public development enquiries, engagement, report preparation, and site-based research. Before moving to Canada, I was a Planning Consultant with MacCabe Durney Barnes in Dublin, delivering Economic Viability Studies, Social Infrastructure Audits, planning applications, and research for local authorities, the European Commission, and private clients.Earlier in my career, I worked with Uisce Éireann (Irish Water) on national land-management and asset-transfer projects, collaborating with all 31 local authorities and providing GIS, mapping, and project coordination support.I hold an MSc in Planning & Development (Distinction) with a GraduatePlus Award, an MA in Human Geography, and a BA in Geography, along with training in ArcGIS, Adobe Creative Suite, project management, and GDPR. I’m a Licentiate Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute and currently working toward chartership.I’m driven by planning that is practical, equitable, and grounded in real community needs, and I enjoy bringing together research, GIS, and design to support better decision-making and more inclusive conversations about place.
