Turning Tables Myanmar (TTM) is an artist-run non-profit social enterprise working to empower Myanmar youth by providing them with channels and means to express their grievances, hopes and dreams through music and film. TTM facilitates a creative environment for learning new skills, sharing experiences and discuss opportunities for social cohesion and bridging societal divides.TTM is one of independently operational country offices of Turning Tables, a global non-profit social enterprise working in Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Lebanon, Jordan, Myanmar, Kenya and Columbia to empower socially, economically and politically marginalized youth through the arts of music and film production since 2009. We are rooted in empowering youth, by youth in order to amplify their voices on issues that concern them.TTM has been active in Myanmar since 2013. Starting in 2015, “Voice of the Youth” (VOY) has been TT Myanmar’s flagship project. VOY aims to empower Myanmar youth through providing a platform for developing and voicing their dreams and concerns for Myanmar’s future and engaging in constructive dialogue across societal, religious and ethnic divides. In Myanmar, 47% of the population is below the age of 35; making Myanmar’s youth crucial in shaping the country’s future. By using music as a creative vehicle for youth-to-youth communication, the project strives to strengthen social cohesion and raise national awareness on the importance of youth participation in Myanmar’s democratic transition.
