ABOUT DARIUSH GHASEMI

Updated on: 04-Aug-2025 Seeking for robust therapeutic targets for complex traits! I\'m a researcher in Statistical Genetics currently working with Claudia Giambartolomei on identification of genetic variants associated with 7,144 proteins from a meta-analysis of INTERVAL and CHRIS studies. With a team of senior analysts from Cambridge and Eurac, I am responsible for developing scalable pipelines for post-GWAS techniques such as locus identification, conditional analysis, coloc fine-mapping, Mendelian randomization, and colocalization with other eQTL/pQTL data. In my PhD project so-called TrainCKDis, I worked with Dr. Cristian Pattaro to characterize the genetic determinants for kidney function in the CHRIS population, a population study with profound phenotypic and multi-omics data. By integrating programming languages empowered by high performance computers, I applied several genetic epidemiology techniques such as GWAS, ExWAS, PheWAS, mediation analysis, haplotype reconstruction, QTL mapping, gene burden, polygenic risk score, and machine learning-based phenotyping analyses. Our research on genetics of the complex traits would help to identify effect modifiers and novel biomarkers, and use of the molecular data provide mechanistic insights on how variants exert their effect on these phenotypes. You will find more about my PhD research findings on \"Featured\" section. I received my bachelor\'s degree in Statistics and master\'s degree in Biostatistics both from Iran. I acquired theoretical principals of a variety of statistical models and later I put this knowledge into practice and explored machine learning techniques to classify risk of type 2 diabetes.
