ABOUT DARCY A.

Darcy Aubin is a dedicated professional with 20 years of achievements in Indigenous land use and development. He is a member of the Da’naxda’xw First Nation located near Alert Bay in British Columbia. Educated in both law and sociology, Darcy has worked for several First Nations, multinational corporations, a Crown Corporation and the Federal government in the areas of social, land, environment, and economic development. During his career, Darcy has worked closely with several Indigenous communities across the Lower Mainland, the Interior, the North and Northern Ontario. He has experience leading successful community-based land use planning initiatives and helping Indigenous communities achieve positive outcomes through their involvement in socio-economic projects.SKILLS AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS• leads large-scale socio-economic projects involving Indigenous communities, industry, and different levels of government;(Municipal, Provincial, Federal, and Indigenous);• supports the establishment of joint ventures and growth of Indigenous-owned businesses;• negotiates and implements key provisions of Impact Benefit Agreements, including employment, training, procurement, and capital investment programs;• navigates complex Provincial and Federal regulatory and legislative regimes around the development of land and resources;• develops funding strategies with respect to remediation of contaminated reserve land;• improves outcomes for all affected parties by providing on-going support of effective communication and information-sharing (including Chief and Council, Indigenous leaders, members of Indigenous communities, Ministers, Mayors, neighbours, and industry); and• presents at cross-Canada conferences, and appears in the media on topics such as: Indigenous land reform, land use planning, contaminated sites, economic development opportunities, and employment and social development.
