ABOUT VENKATESWARLU DARAMALLA
Dr Venkat Daramalla is a Senior Research Scientist, associate consultant, and 2024 Maxwell Impulse for Tech‑Innovator participant. He is an experimental (applied) physicist and materials scientist/engineer with over 15 years of interdisciplinary experience in specialised scientific research, advanced materials innovation, technical leadership and management. He has been endorsed by the UK Royal Society for research excellence, scholarships and contributions across the UK, India, and Switzerland, and is recognised as a UK Global Talent.His R&D focuses on curiosity-driven scientific discovery and application-focused solutions that address industry challenges in advanced materials, device integration, and scalable manufacturing. He is currently working on cross-disciplinary projects that blend deep-tech innovation with an enterprise mindset to deliver strategic, scalable, and sustainable solutions. He brings cross‑disciplinary R&D expertise in experimental R&D, specialising in thin films, interfaces, and battery, electrochemical, semiconductor, and quantum‑materials and device applications. He is passionate about advancing (environmentally/socially-driven) sustainable energy and emerging technologies, and scaling innovations for energy, semiconductor, health, wearable, and MedTech sectors.He possesses highly transferable scientific R&D and technical knowledge, as well as strategic design skills (including proof of concepts, design of experiments (DoE) and project planning, development, and delivery of advanced R&D projects, backed by inclusive leadership, teaching, and mentoring abilities. He is highly skilled in R&D team/project management, setting up research laboratory facilities, strategically initiating collaborations with diverse stakeholders, negotiating, and developing R&D business, as well as strategic networking and exploring enterprise opportunities. He has also worked on R&D of the atomically controlled epitaxial thin films & heterostructures, interface engineering using advanced thin-film technologies (PLD, PVD, sputtering, CVD) with (in-situ) characterisations for energy, electronic and spintronic devices. This includes innovations in materials synthesis (deposition/growth) and experimental device fabrication, employing systematic characterisations and testing analysis. For example, he has worked on advanced thin-film devices, microbatteries, oxide electronics, photoanodes, and nano-micro fabrication to support sustainable energy and emerging technologies.
