Providing senior-level management for one of the largest emergency assistance funds at Freedom House, the Lifeline Embattled CSO Assistance Fund which provides short-term grants to human rights defenders (HRDs) and civil society organizations (CSOs) around the world that are under threat or attack because of their human rights work. ABOUT DANYA GREENFIELD
Danya is a senior-level international development and policy professional with more than 15 years of experience in fostering civil society resiliency, human rights defender protection, democracy and governance, program design and implementation, strategic planning, staff management, and organizational capacity-building. Danya has extensive regional expertise in the Middle East and North Africa regarding economic and political development, civil society development, and private sector engagement. She has technical expertise in navigating closing civic space issues, local partner capacity building, advocacy skills, women\'s and youth participation, election issues, anti-corruption initiatives, and corporate governance. She has held senior-level responsibility for proposal writing, donor relations, and project management for initiatives funded by USAID, State Department, European Union, and private foundations. Danya has a demonstrated capacity to interact effectively across cultures. She is comfortable engaging with the full range of interlocutors including heads of state, senior officials, prominent business leaders, youth activists, academics, and the media. She has a deep love of languages and has studied Arabic for more than 10 years to develop and maintain her strong proficiency in Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) and colloquial Arabic. She is an avid practitioner of mindfulness and insight meditation, and has participated in meditation workshops and retreats across the globe from California to India to Thailand. She loves writing, whether policy analysis or her personal blog, and is enjoying discovering the art of photography.
